Work
During the pre-industrial and industrial times, people had to put a lot of hard work to accomplish the things they wanted to do. While they were active, they had to spend all their time working hard to save for their retirement.
“Work Hard, Rest Easy.” – was the golden slogan then.
Now in the 21st century, even though hard work is essential, that is not the only ingredient for success and to have a fun filled life and enjoyable retirement. Even if you are working hard and are a good person, if you are not adapting to changes quickly enough, you won’t be able to safeguard yourself from failure.
Smart work determines what to work, where to work, how to work, and to always adapt.
Smart work has to be combined with hard work to achieve success. At the same time, being smart but lazy to do the work is not going to take you anywhere.
Constantly innovate the way you work. Question yourself, is there a better way to do what I’m doing?
Identify the best way to get things done within the means of the current situation. Then, work towards achieving it.
Have a clear direction to reach the ideal best way. When you reach the ideal best, it is time to reevaluate and find out the better and ideal options. At every level, check if what you are doing is worth doing, or if it needs a pivot (a change in direction).
There is no 1 standard success formula – you need to innovate based on your interests. Use books, patterns, and practices as your tools to identify the things which will work for you. Focus your energy to achieve your prime needs.
Success is a journey and you need to continue your work without stopping. There is no defined limit for what a human can achieve, rather it is the mind that draws the limits.
When you know you need to do and have to do it now but delay for later, it is called procrastination. When that becomes your behavior, you are deemed lazy and you are expected to fail.
Qualities of smart work:
- Make work as Art, so you love what you’re doing.
- See problems as opportunities.
- Constantly innovate better ways to do what you are doing – be efficient.
- Employ the right resources for the appropriate type of work.
- Delegate work to maximize your time, but ensure it is delivered with quality.
- Finish the work in the stipulated time instead of always working late to accomplish it.
- Pivot as and when needed without hesitation to cut the waste.
At times you need to do hard work, but always have a direction to reach better and the best way by doing smart work.
Smart work is the lifestyle of hard work, perseverance, planning, and mainly self-discipline, which leads to building wealth.
