Dream Projector
Your first thought is rarely your best and final thought. It can be an ignitor for a big thing, but it always, always, requires tinkering to make it shine.
Dream Projector is a technique at your disposal to see whether that dream spark can become your desire and worth pursuing.
Any spark of an idea which strikes you, which you can act upon to solve something is an initial dream.
Once you realize that initial spark, write that down in a notebook, which I call a “Dream Collector“. The next logical step is, for each dream, allocate a separate section of pages in the same notebook or identify an individual notebook which will be your “Dream Projector“.
Now it is time to think about your idea by asking many questions:
Why do I want to pursue this?
What is the goal of this project?
What is it going to produce as direct and indirect benefits?
How do I do it?
What resources do I have? and etc.
The more questions we answer the more likely you are to make the right decision.
The tools you can employ to project your dream are discussed below.
Mind Map –
A mind map is a diagram used to visually organize information. A mind map is hierarchical and shows relationships among pieces of the whole. This is a quick way to put our arms around the whole idea of what we want to achieve and reveals all the important pieces.
Major ideas are connected directly to the central concept, and other ideas branch out from those.
Mind maps can be drawn by hand, either as “rough notes” or as higher quality pictures utilizing any one of the software drawing tools.
Impact mapping is a special kind of mind map. It is a strategic planning technique that can prevent organizations from getting lost while building products and delivering projects, by clearly communicating assumptions, helping teams align their activities with overall business objectives, and making better roadmap decisions.
Vision Board is any type of board on which you write text or display images that represent your vision of your life and what you want to become. Creating and using vision boards serves several purposes, most importantly : identify your vision and give it clarity, reinforce your affirmations, and keep your attention on your intentions.
If you want to start a business, use the template called Business Model Canvas – a very simple 1-page tool, you can implement by using a pen and paper, which can help to clarify your idea and also aid in identifying the areas which you never thought about.
Business Model Canvas –
The Business Model Canvas is a strategic management and lean startup template for developing new business models or documenting existing ones. It is a visual chart with elements describing a firm’s or product’s value proposition, revenue streams, cost model, infrastructure, and target customers.
Once you get to some level of understanding on what you want to create, the product or service you want, Do apply the concept of how to test the waters before going in full blown. The most successfully adapted concept is to apply the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) on your idea.
Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is a development technique in which a new product or website is created with sufficient features to satisfy early users. The final, complete set of features is only designed and developed after considering feedback from the product‘s initial users.
Creating small MVPs and building on top the initial MVP is like how honey bees go to several flowers and pick the nectar from each flower and build the honeycomb in small steps. A honeycomb can be used in any stage, big or small. At the initial stage it is a MVP, and as it reaches its fullest size it becomes a complete honeycomb.
By applying the tools above, one can get clarity on whether their dream can become a desire to pursue.
“You hit what you aim at, and if you aim at nothing
you will hit it every time.” – Zig Ziglar
The problem with NOT following the “Dream Collector” and “Dream Projector” is that we lose the precise thoughts we had during the initial moments and sometimes we may forget the idea in whole. If you cannot put in the time to think on the idea right away, then take some quick notes in whatever form possible so you can remind yourself at a later time to help with the projection process.
Sleep on the idea for a day or two and if all your thinker muscles are in alignment to take this dream to the next step, jump into action.
